I am a disabled mother of 4 suffering from a progressive neurological disorder called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). This is a painful & debilitating disease which affects both my feet from the toes up to the thighs; diagnosed in October 2007. NOTHING can come in contact with my feet--lankets, socks, a breeze,--without me crying. I had a spinal cord stimulator (SCS) implanted in May 2008 to help with the pain. I receive SSI but I feel as if I am not a contributing member of society but a burden on my family. I rely on a wheelchair & I feel that everyday this disease takes more of my life. I am fighting to keep what quality of life I can & enjoy my family. I have four wonderful children who make every day a good day! They range in age from 20 to 7 years old and we have been blessed with 2 girls and 2 boys. My kids are my reason for living along with the support of my husband we will get through this. I try to stay focused on the positive but bad days outnumbering good days makes it difficult. I am in college & working on my bachelor's degree in English Literature & Childhood Studies. I hope to get my master's degree in Library Science & help schools & libraries with children's literacy programs. My husband is a student (senior) too & a mechanic; the economy has hurt his business. We both attend college on scholarships & work hard to keep high GPA's. We live in a small country town (pop. 246) & try our best to set good examples for our children on the importance of an education. Other than my sister, we have no family nearby so no real support. My husband assumed all duties & responsibilities in our house-driving, cooking, cleaning, shopping & laundry and ofte, my legs! We know there is light at the end of the tunnel but often we ask how long the tunnel is! Making wishes come true for others gives us hope that our hero is out there looking for us!
