GRANTED!

I WISH For Help With Son's Transplant Expenses

I had a wish up for this back in October. Although it was not fully granted, I closed it because it had gotten "lost" in all the new wishes.
My son Jordan has a rare life threatening illness called Severe Chronic Congenital Neutropenia, Kostman's Syndrome, and will be getting a bone marrow transplant soon after his 16th birthday. Before the transplant he will have many appointments for cardiactric testing, pulmonary tests, dental and vision etc...along with all his regular PCP visits.
These appointments will be 2 hours away. We have applied for a grant to help with the donor search and a preliminary search has been started. He will be admitted to the hospital and undergo 1 week of massive chemo treatments and will remain after the transplant for 1 month. The hospital will try to reserve me a room at the family house at $15 per day. After that, he will be put into an apartment at the patient house for 2-3 more months, where I will have to stay with him as he will need 24/7 care. I will be responsible for my expenses such as food, travel, housing ($15 per night..3-6 months) etc., and any uncovered expenses for him, meanwhile still paying bills at home and the gas for his brothers and dad to come visit him. At this time, I am needing to raise approx. $1800 (added to the $250 I have received ). There is a bus the comes every Mon to the family house that goes to Wal-Mart, so GC would be great too. Even though I can't leave, another resident there will get things we need for us. Any help is appreciated..and prayers are always welcome and needed. Thank You.

I am unable to put into words, how the generosity of the heroes here has touched my family. We appreciate it more than you can know and will never forget how many of you have blessed us. In our eyes, you are angels watching over our child, and with all the prayers being sent, he has so much in his corner.
If any of you would like to be kept up on his progress, or receive a copy of the flier for his fundraiser, please feel free to PM me or email me. I think I have already sent it to those who have asked..if not, please let me know.
Thank you, and god bless you all.

I don't know if it's too late but I just sent a small donation by paypal. I'm new to this and don't know the ropes yet. It would never occur to me that you were trying to scam us. May be I'm too gullible but that's OK I'd rather be trusting that always thinking the worst about people.

  • Ladymongoose 16 months ago

Just a note to once again say thank you to all the heroes who have blessed my family. I have received all but 2 of the offers. I will be closing this wish at the end of the week. I wish to thank all of you who didn't question my honesty, even before this was verified. It does break my heart that the dishonesty of some causes overflow onto others who are being honest. I sincerely hope I have not done anything to cause the suspicions I know exsist. I have answered every question asked of me to the best of my ability. I have also shown every bit of proof I have up to this date. I cannot answer things I have yet to be told the answers to.
Please know that I appreciate everyone's kindness so much more than you realize, and I will never forget "my heroes".

Wishbone..The financial adviser at WVU is the one handling the ins. fiasco. I am told that is how it is done with this kind of procedure. I have received a call from the ins. company myself once and discussed it in detail. The lady from the ins company told me the transplant will run around 250.000..if we stay in WVU, they will NOT pay more than 30,000. We also received a letter from them telling us if we have it done at WVU our MAX benefit is 30,000. If we have it done at a hospital they are contracted with, they will pay more. If it was because he would receive better care somewhere else, or there were any violations or medical reasons why they didnt want it done here, I'd have no problem leaving..but it hasn't anything to do with that. It is simply because this hospital is not one they prefer.I will be talking to a social worker on the 23rd when we go back, as well as the search coordinator and financial adviser.

  • wishbone 16 months ago

Did WVU assign you a social worker?

  • wishbone 16 months ago

I don't mean to offend but it is my understanding that insurance coverage is between you (private party) and the insurance company. What the hospital bills goes to your (private insurance). All insurance companies have fee schedules but I believe that is not done on a doctor or hospital schedule, rather it is done by what is customary for the area. Was the amount you were precertified for $30,000 for the medical procedure?

LUCY I apologize, I was going by her asking why the hospital would have us relocate, just explaining that it was the ins. company, not the hospital.
The ins. company did not tell ME for the whole family to relocate, they told the financial adviser at our hospital. I have only spoken with the insurance once and was told flat out that our max. benefit if we have it done here, where he has been treated for 11 yrs, would be $30,000.00 period.
Yes, we would all like to be with him. It would be impossible if he and I have to go across the USA, because my husband cannot leave his job, he'd lose the ins. then anyway. Why they would suggest it? who knows? it seems ridiculous to me.Bottom line is, we are NOT going anywhere except where he is now and has been for 11 yrs. WVU is JUST as good as any other hospital and it offers much more, they just don't have a contract with this ins. company. I am not trying to raise funds to go elsewhere. Yes it includes the $250 from previous wish.

  • Lucy 16 months ago

I think what cherishedteddie is asking is why would the insurance company tell your entire family to move? All they should care about is that your son and a parent stay there. Did they actually tell you that all of you must move or is it that your whole family just wants to be with him (which I would understand)?

I have a question too. Does the amount shown here include the $250.00 from your previous wish? I know you need much more money but I'm trying to figure out how much I can donate and was wondering.

  • behindtragiceyesverified member icon 16 months ago

Cherishteddie..What i was told a couple days ago from the financial advisor is: The ins company wants my WHOLE family to relocate for the 3-6 months in order to go to a hospital THEY have a contract with. WE want to stay at the hospital that has treated him for the last 11 yrs..and knows his illness. Not to a hospital that has never treated his illness..just because the ins co. has a contract with them. The way it is now..at the hospital in my state..me and Jordan will stay..husband and other kids will be at home. The hospital never told anyone to relocate..the insurance company did..and the hospital is filing an appeal to keep him here. That is what the post on GON states. I sent documentation of this wish to admin and security here, not sure why it hasn't been verified..but, when this was posted, we were not told yet of the ins. company's wishes..bottom line is..my son is more important than the ins co. and I will fight to keep him where he wishes to have it done.

I am sorry to say I'm confused. Your page on needyorgreedy that has raised $110 so far says you may have to relocate for 2-3 months, the entire family.

I thought just you and your son was going to the transplant hospital and your husband and other son staying at the house.

I just don't understand why a hospital would tell the entire family to relocate.

Tinkerbell76..first let me say, I hope everything turns out alright with your baby. I will definitely keep you in my prayers!
I looked at the link you posted..the hospital gave me a packet with all that in it =) We have already applied for a grant to help cover some of the donor search costs through them, and the hospital has started a preliminary search for a donor on the NMDP Registry. We have yet to hear if we will get a grant, and if so, how much. The rest of what they help with is treatment within 6 mos. after transplant...so we will have to apply again at that time. You submit a bill and a request to pay it, and they either do, or reject it.
Good luck with your baby..God bless and watch over you both!
