My name is Tiffany. I have 2 young children (a 4 year old and
almost 3 year old) and a loving Husband. My Husband sustained an
injury to his shoulder two years ago working as a Firefighter. He
had his surgeries and physical therapy covered through work and
then once he had healed, came back to work only to discover his
shoulder could no longer perform at 100% or at least not enough to
ensure his own safety or his fellow coworkers. He lost his job
shortly after he returned back to work. Since then, he has been
able to work some desk jobs, but not enough to support the family,
cover healthcare or pay the bills. We are both out of work and
submitting our resumes on a daily basis, all while raising our
children with help from family, but even they can only help so
much. Earlier this past year he started to realize that he was
losing strength again in the repaired shoulder. It has got to a
point where he feels like something is shredding in his shoulder by
the end of they day and the pain is gut wrenching. For his physical
health and to remain an active part of the family, he tries not to
take the prescribed pain killers unless the pain is unbearable.
Unfortunately, pain killers are his only current option.
The orthopedic surgeon who performed his initial surgery wants $250
up front just to see him, and it kills me that we can't come up
with that much after groceries/diapers/gas/etc. We as a family,
need my Husband to be back in good health again. He is our hero and
we hate to see him in so much pain. He and I have already agreed
that we won't be getting Christmas presents for one another this
year so the kids can have a good Christmas, and to be honest, all I
really want is for him to find out what's causing this new pain and
loss of function as well as to give him back the gift of a working
arm. I'm asking for $500 to cover both initial visit costs as well
as follow up costs to get us to tax season when we can hopefully
work out a better plan with the surgeon.
