My name is Jami Van Brocklin. I'm the founder & creator of
Operation Return the Favor, which used to be a program under the
wings of WUAH Foundation a few years ago. I'm also the wife of an
Army soldier & mother of 2 wonderful kids. I started my program
when my own husband was deployed to Iraq in 2006. I began my
program to help the single soldiers returning home from war. That
was when we were active duty. Now we are National Guard. I am
starting my program back up this summer. I will be coordinating
FREE events with Oxford Public Library & librarian "Barbara",
for the spouses and children of deployed Alabama military men &
women. These events will provide local resources for the families
& fun activities for the spouses and children to enjoy. We will
do crafts for them to keep or send to their soldier. We will also
be raffling off a gift basket of relaxing items to one spouse at
each event. These activities will continue throughout the local
deployments. In order to make these activities successful, I will
need help collecting the items needed. I expect 50-100 participants
at each event.
Monetary donations are great, but I also need material donations,
such as GIFT CARDS to Bath & Body Works, Walmart, Target,
Kohls, etc. for the gift baskets, GIFT CARDS to Hobby Lobby (our
local craft shop),
CRAFT SUPPLIES- paints, markers, crayons, construction paper,
patriotic embellishments like stickers, appliques, etc., packs of
MENS white t-shirts (LARGE & XL), fingerpaints, stationary
& envelopes for writing letters, postage stamps for mailing
letters & cards for spouses, craft kits, air-dry clay for
making crafts to send, wood kits (ex. frames, shadow boxes, etc.);
"NEW" GIFT BASKET ITEMS- bath products, makeup items, perfumes,
candies, chocolates, jewelry, etc.; BOXES OR PACKS OF BLANK CARDS
for spouses & children to write personal messages to their
soldier & for participants to write thank you cards to other
soldiers not related to them.
