I nursed my first daughter Samara effortlessly. It was simply a
joy, and was our special bond. It was the single thing I was
looking forward to when I had my adorable little boy. Those dreams
were shattered upon his birth.
Nursing him has been a struggle for both of us. He has had problems
since the day he was born. He gasps for air, is fussy, and never
seems satisfied. While nursing he never seems content and often
moans in pain while nursing. I am having difficulties as well
ranging from vascular damage to infections due to his mouth.
We have spent countless hours and resources trying to help our bond
work together well, and with out pain for either of us but nothing
has helped thus far.
We desire to continue to nurse at the breast but with the pain, and
his slowly gaining weight I am not sure how much longer we can
continue.
There is great news. He has a condition called posterior tongue
tie, and a bubble palate. The tongue tie can be fixed through a
simple dental surgery, and then continued therapies and support.
The continued therapies are local and I do have health insurance to
cover them. In time with proper tongue positioning his palate
issues can resolve as well!
There is a specialist in Dayton, Dr. Notestein. He is a dentist who
specializes in posterior tongue ties. I am asking for help funding
the trip and the fees of the procedure. It isn't much, but it is
more than we can come up with on such short notice.
With fixing this, it should help him eat easier, not only nursing,
but help him stop choking on solids as well. It is possible with
easier eating he may gain weight. As it stands now he has nearly
dropped off the growth charts. It will help with his speech as he
gets older. It will also help his dental health through his
lifetime.
Please help me have this bond with my son, and give him the chance
at an easier life.
