I am a mother of 3 children 16,14 & 12. I have recently made a
mistake by putting money down on a house to rent as we had to be
out soon from our old one. It was between me & another family.
They could move in July 1st but I couldnt till Aug 1st. The family
did choose my family & thought we got along great. I paid
security & pet deposit but also OFFERED to pay them 1st month
rent as I knew they were in a tight spot as well & I felt bad
that they had to wait till I could move in. But in return they
liked it as well as they have a huge family & didnt think they
would be out by July 1st anyways. Well come July 15th another home
closer to work, much bigger & cheaper came up. The kids wouldnt
have to start new schools & I wouldnt have to commute. I talked
to the family & explained myself and asked about backing out of
lease. They said it was ok & that they will do there best to
get it rented by August. When I asked about getting pet deposit
& Aug rent back letting them keep the security of $1300.00 I
got ignored for over a week. I felt bad so I sent possible renters
there way but they are all getting ignored as well. Now they say
its all part of the deposit & because i signed the lease &
the check was in my name which my bank called & said she was
wanting cash that day says I am liable even though a roomate listed
on it who didnt sign it was not. Needless to say I had to come up
with 1st & last month rent + security of new house. I have
depleted my checking including savings. My fridge is empty &
now worry about what the kids will eat. I work FT & here I cant
even make ends meet. Any help with Coborns gift cards or even
Walmart as we have a super walmart would help us out &
hopefully get us back on our feet. Or any advice on what I should
do about possibly small claims court?? The family is still moving
out of there house & I have to make a rent payment here soon to
our new home as well..
