I’m submitting this because I want for her to
realize at least one of her heart’s desires
before cancer consumes(?) her: to ensure a place for her
children—17 & 11—to
live after her death.
Despite a violent childhood--& adulthood riddled with physical
& mental abuse--my cousin Carmen has always, even as a child,
put the needs & wants of others ahead of her own. Shortly after
being discharged from the military with PTSD, she was diagnosed
with breast cancer, which has since spread to both hips, shoulder,
brain, bones & spine. Within the past week, she learned that a
small black lump on her side is also cancerous. Even though she
continues to fight & hope &... smile an infectious smile,
it's becoming increasingly clear that this battle is proving to be
more challenging—for all of
us—than any she’s
faced.
Early yesterday morning, she awoke in so much pain that I think she
thought that the end of her life on this earth might be nearing its
end, which is what prompted me to submit this request.
(It’s been difficult for me to believe that
ANYTHING could... beat her... because she’s
always been so very strong.)
In recent months, her sister left her apartment in another state,
with her 3 children, to help care for her. Within the past couple
weeks, the 3 of us sat together to discuss
Carmen’s final wishes. After the conversation,
we were left trying to determine how to care for her children &
maintain the home & environment she wanted & worked so hard
to give them. Our hope is that you'll be willing to help make that
happen.
There is so much more of her story that I would love to share with
you, not in an effort to convince you to help, but because it is a
life experience with so much to teach. ...Please feel free to ask
ANY questions.
Thanks so much.
