Our daughter, Tacey, was born 12 years ago with an extremely rare
form of cancer, Retinoblastoma. At the age of 9 months, her right
eye was removed to keep the cancer from spreading. She suffered
multiple complications, endured many rounds of chemo and
experimental treatments until this past year. One month before her
7th birthday, her left eye was also removed. This left Tacey
totally blind. She then had to undergo even more aggressive chemo
to eradicate any remaining cancer in her body. Even though she is
still battling cancer, she is stable at this point. Even though she
has no vision now, she still "envisions" things through her other
senses and her memory of what she used to see.
We have tried to provide her with as many opportunities as possible
on our limited income. Our budget is limited due to multiple
hospital and doctor bills and only one income. Due to her need for
specialized care and being homebound due to her compromised immune
system, I have had to quit work to care for her.
Tacey attends our local public school. However, being blind in
public education has special challenges! It is difficult for the
teachers to make all the accommodations and modifications needed
due to the number of students they teach.
Apple products come fully accessible for the blind straight out of
the box! Having an iPod will make access to assignments and
homework completion much easier for Tacey. It will also allow her
teachers to send her assignments electronically which will save
them a lot of time and extra preparation!
Thanks for helping this wish become a reality!
