My 5 year old son Jacob has Epilepsy, Autism and Fragile X
Syndrome. He is non-verbal, wears diapers and drinks mostly from a
baby bottle. He will be starting a special needs kindergarten after
labor day and we have many needs for him that we just cannot
provide.
I am disabled and on SSI. My husband is unable to work full-time as
our son requires more than one person to care for him.
We were living in apts. but kept getting evicted because our son
yells and pounds on windows...we moved to a mobile home on a piece
of land, it's a rent-to-own situation...Although we know there is
no fear of being evicted here as long as we make our
payments...there are still many things we've needed and been unable
to provide.
New York State where we live have generously offered to put up 2
fences so that Jake can play outside safely...but they will only
pay for one gate...so we need to come up with $185 for a second
gate.
We have learned some of the things that have been used to help
Jake...he is very sensory and needs to be kept occupied/busy...one
thing we need is a small but fully-enclosed trampoline that we
could keep in the house to keep his sensory needs fulfilled over
the winter months. He is 4' tall and weighs 70 pounds and is
forever growing out of his clothes. There is also Jacob's comfort
toy...a Playskool Weebles barn/farm that is not made anymore...he
is on his 6th right now...he throws them and bangs them, but also
sleeps with them and cannot leave the house without it.
If you have Facebook, you can check out my page for pictures of
Jacob...Tia Colvin.
We do have one vehicle...a 1995 Saturn SL2 and the transmission is
bad...it will not go in reverse...we don't have any other option
but to continue to drive it until it dies.
I joined this site November, 2011 but have not posted as I do find
it hard to ask for help.
I no longer have a choice, but to ask.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!! :-)
