HELP THESE AMAZING GIRLS!!

On December, 22 2011 a friend of the family dropped off her 2 daughters at my mothers house to spend the night. Today these little girls are still with us. My mother is cannot work and is disabled, but has been denied SS benefits. The mother of these girls hasnt contacted us in any way. We were told by a lawyer that the mother could at any time come and take these babies back!! The mother is a drug addict, and has abused these girls before. She has 7 kids none of which she has in her care! We NEED to go to court and get the rights terminated on the mother and get custody, that way no one can ever hurt these little girls again! We were recently quoted $1000 for all court fees to do this process. These amazing girls deserve a stable living environment. If someone out there could help grant this huge wish we would be eternally grateful. The girls are both physiologically challenged from the abuse and everyday is a challenge, but we wouldnt have it any other way. God bless each of you reading this!!

we contacted CPS after having the girls about 1 month. we actually begged and pleaded but the "system" for all its worth would not even talk with us about the situation. we were told unless someone made a neglect report on us there would we no need to come out or be involved in anyway. we are getting our legal advice from a lawyer, and we have to go about it this way. we cannot get financial aid because the mother previously had financial aid in our town. they said it was a conflict of interest. lawyers and police dept have both told us that we need to go to court or the mother can come get them.

I agree with the pervious post, PLUS since they are in a safe protective enviroment chances are there is where they will stay and you may even be Minimulally (sp) compensated at a foster parent, food stamps, child care etc. I know money is far from you mind but every bit help.

I would suggest that you contact child protective services and explain that you have had the girls for this long. I am only familiar with Florida I do know that in Texas Child Protective Services can give you advice. This could help with paperwork for you guys to be eligible for food stamps for the kids and medicaid. If they are challenged a case manager could advise on how to start applications for SSI and any ohter benefits. they could even be elgiblible for screening for early pre K. It is to your advantage to help the children by making some phone calls.

It sounds to me like the "legal advice" you are getting is coming from someone more concerned about getting legal fees than helping you navigate the system to the girls best advantage.

I second littlebunnie's comments, if you haven't already involved Social Services you need to do that now. They will not take the girls from you if they are in a safe envrionment, and they can give you temporary legal custody, plus help with the permanent custody. She also might even be eligible for a foster care stipend for them from Social Services. If you have at least temporary custody, the mother "can't" come take them back, and I would make sure that it is written up that she could only have supervised visitation if she happens to show up.

You need to contact cps, they will investigate the mother and terminate her rights. If she is that bad they probably already have her on file. If you get them involved they will help you in alot of ways, even adoption.
