I am a US Navy veteran and substitute teacher who desperately needs
help paying her utility bills. I spent 25 years in the Navy and
Naval Reserves, but since I retired from the Reserves, I won't get
my retirement pay for another 3 years when I turn 60. School
resumed here in early August, but I have only had 3 substituting
assignments to date.
Right now, I have deadbeat roommates who are running my utility
bills sky high and not paying their rent. They have drained me
financially, physically, and emotionally. At the beginning of
April, I had enough money to last me until the end of August.
Thanks to my roommates, that was gone by the middle of May. I have
checked with the Sheriff's department & Legal Aid on how to get
rid of them. Unfortunately, because they receive mail here, I will
have to evict them and that will cost me about $300 each.
Considering the fact that I was only able to pay 1/2 of the August
bills, I consider it a miracle that my electricity and water are
still on. Now the September bills are due too. I will be paid for
the first substituting assignment on Sept. 15 but my utilities will
be shut off before then. I have contacted the Salvation Army &
other charitable organizations, including several churches in my
area, but none of them have any money right now.
Although I have a neighbor who would let me shower & cook at
her house, I have an elderly dog & a cat who has epilepsy &
cannot take them over there because she is allergic to cats. Also,
I have asthma and need to keep it cool in the house at night so I
can breathe while I am sleeping. It is still too hot to keep the
air conditioning turned off and the windows open. My animals would
suffer in the 90+ degree temperatures.
I would be extremely grateful for any help I receive.
God Bless You and Thank You in advance.
