Laiken was born at 25 weeks because of a major car accident that
caused a placenta abrubtion. She went a very long time without
oxygen and was diagnosed with grade 3 Hypoxic Ischemic
Encephalopathy (HIE) and weeks later suffered a bilateral grade 3
IVH. She fought for her life for 107 days in the NICU and finally
came home on hospice February 9th 2011. She is our little miracle!
It wasn't long after she came home that the seizures started and
the infantile spasms. She has also been diagnosed with Cortical
Vision Impairment (CVI), Cerebral Palsy, complete hearing loss,
west syndrome and 5 different chromosome deletions/mutations. She
was recently diagnosed as being in a permanent vegetative state.
Her mother was told by doctors that Laiken's body is starting to
shut down and she doesn't expect her to live more than a couple of
months and an infection may take her sooner. I would love to help
this family out!
