I WISH for some help to get to Duke

I have been able to get my son's surgery for facial reanimation covered by Medicaid. He has C.H.A.R.G.E. Syndrome which resulted in facial palsy. He can't smile like other kids or close his eye. This usrgery will give him a beautiful smile. He is 7 and beyond excited about going. The issue we are having is the hotel cost for the night before, food and gas expense to get there and back. We can eat at the hospital at a low cost if we order the trays available to patients. His father and I are both going. We are struggling due to being laid off and some issue with unemployment benefits not wanting to go through. It says he is already recieving them, so we are going to have to get them to investigate that. Joey does get SSI, but only $560.67 a month. If anyone can help we would be forever grateful.

    I want to say thank you to everyone that is making this trip possible! My son is still so excited. He isn't scared at all. He says he is going to eat Duke out of popsicles...     Call the Ronald McDonald House at Duke and ask for Help. My daughters where hit by a drunk driver and one daughter was in a coma for several months. We were unable to pay for a long term hotel stay and Ronald McDonald house allowed us to stay for a suggested donation of $8.00 per day. 3 Meals a day are provided. It was a Blessing and eased our minds. I hope this will work for you. Also contact a Duke Hospital social worker and explain you situation. There are free phone cards, meal tickets, free parking, etc. that the hospital can help you with. I hope you can see your Son's beautiful smile soon. God Bless you all!!!

    When do you need to get him there? I can't do much but if you are travelling thru Rocky Mount NC I will be glad to meet you at a service station and help you gas up your car. Also they should have a floor at the hospital with rooms for the families of patients cheaper than any hotel in the area. Just call and ask the receptionist and they should be able to give you all the info you need. Hope this helps!
