I WISH For groceries and household supplies for my family.

My husband and I have 5 children and we have been really struggling for a couple fo years now. 4 weeks ago, my husband was laid off from his job. He started back this week, but we are so behind now I don't know what we will do. He has not gotten any Unemployment benefits yet, and we do not know if he will or not. We applied for food stamps 30 days ago, but they have not told me yet if we will get them or not. (I was told that they only had 30 days to approve us and make the food stamps available to us- but that has not happened.)

At this point we are about out of everything. I did receive help from a local food pantry right after he lost his job, but they are only able to help us every 60 days. They also helped keep our power on this month, but our phone was turned off, so now I use a neighbor's internet.
We could really use some food and basic household supplies like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, shampoo, soap, feminine products for me and my daughter, etc. Any help no matter how small would be so greatly appreciated. We have Wal-mart, Food Lion, and Harris Tetter in our area.

    hi there-i live not too far away from you in east spencer(exit 79 off i-85)i can't help much in the way of groceries but can make a small bag with some of the following items if you need them-
    2 full size toothpastes
    pantiliners(out of boxes but stored in ziploc bag for storage reasons)
    pack of womens razors
    trial size mens body wash
    goodys headache powders
    full size womans deodorant
    trial size deodorant
    shampoo/conditioner samples
    bottle of all purpose cleaner

    I just wanted to give an update for those of you who have asked. We still have not gotten an answer about the food stamps. It has been 49 days since we applied. We are still waiting for an answer. I have left messages with them, but recieve no return calls.

    I want to thank all of my heros for the help that you have given my family. we could not have made it through the last few weeks without you. I would also like to give a special thanks to ckirkman for all of the wonderful food you supplied my family with 2 times. You are a wonderful person and a great hero! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

    I wanted to put an update on our situation.
    First of all, tahnks so much for the prayers, advice and suggestions! I also want to thank all of you who have offered to help as well. Thank you ckirkman who private messaged me and drove over 45 minutes to meet me and give me food and household things for my family! That was so wonderful of you and means so much to my family! The gumbo was absolutely great!

    As for our food stamp case, I finally got in touch withthe supervisor at Social Services and the said they are working on my application but we still have no food stamps after about 40 days.

    As for the Angel food ministries, I have looked into them before, and I would really love to try it, but right now we do not have any money at all to pay for it.

    Thanks again for all of the help and suggestions. I really appreciate everything!

    IDK where Rockwell is, but Angel Food Ministries in available in NC. I live in Rocky Mount and they have a church station here. I took an order form from the WIC department since I didn't qualify for that. Also walmart.com has free samples daily and right now they have feminine products (Always, Kotex, Poise). I hope you find your Hero and I hope this info helps you!

    Someone posted a wish to let people know of program called Angel Food Ministries (Angelfoodministries.com) that helps with food. According to the post it is available in 39 states. If you get the opportunity to check it out maybe it is available in your state and in an area of your state close to you.

    scrappinaz- Thanks for the foundation info. I filled out the application there. Also thanks for the prayer- we know that helps! I will send you a message with the otehr information you asked about.

    ckirkman- Thanks for you offer of help through our message. On the unemployment, he filed for it the day he lost his job almost 5 weeks ago, and has does all the reports he is supposed to. He did get in touch with someone over the phone 2 weeks ago and spoke with someone at the local office last week, adn they told him it make take up to 10 weeks to get an answer for benefits. Apparently they are having a backlog with the applications filed online (which he did cause it was supposed to be faster.)

    Unfortunately, I only have .74 left in paypal. It is yours though and is a start even though it's small. Wishing you the best of luck. Also, if they gave you an EBT card continue calling the number on the card because, sometimes they don't let you know and just put the funds on the card. That has happened to me in the past.

    If your husband was out of work for 4 weeks, he should be able to get at least a couple of weeks of unemployment. You haven't heard a decision from them yet? You should have received something in the mail by now. I know their phone lines are jammed, but if you can get access to a phone call them and be prepared to wait. It took me 45 minutes last week to get an answer (I am also in NC)on a change in my claim.
