To Take my Dad, a PEARL HARBOR SURVIVOR, back to Hawaii for his 90th BIRTHDAY

Thank you for reading this. My Dad will be 90 yrs old in October. While out to dinner the other day, I asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday this year; was there any place that he wanted to go. His answer caught me by surprise. He got a kind of glazed look on his face and said that he'd like to go back to Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii. He said that he had the chance to go back there when they had the 50th Reunion. He said that he was sorry that he had not gone. Then, he laughed like it was a joke. He knew that I did not have the means of making that birthday wish come true. I am a Christian and do believe that all things are possible through God. I am hoping to get enough donations to my pay pal account to actually make this wish come true for him, and to celebrate on a cruise ship? maybe with our whole family present. I know that this is a long shot, but I'm trying to make his wish come true. He is in excellent health (walks 2 miles 3xweek). He is also in the Boxing Hall of Fame.     I really love this wish and hope others will join in to help make this happen. Heres $50 to get it started. IT would be great if you could post an estimated cost for getting your father and at least one other person to go along with as well so the heroes can have a goal to reach.
    I feel like if we pull together we could make this happen your him...we all pulled together and raised $500 in two days to help WUAH advertise..we can do this!

No mere words could express what YOU HEROS did for us. Because of your genuine concern and generous contributions, I'm please to announce that we will be leaving for Hawaii in the morning, Wednesday, 10/1/08. Can you believe this incredable journey that started back in March of this year? There are so many heros that this thanks goes out to. I would especially like to thank American Legion Post 133 in New Jersey for generously paying for my Dad's portion of the trip. And it goes beyond saying that if it weren't for the idea of Wish Upon a Hero Founder, Dave Girgenti, no one would have even hear about this wish. Thank you Dave :) I'd also like to thank Nancy (my angel) who worked so hard and so dilligently putting this all together with the travel agency, and all of the other people that she involved including newspapers, TV stations, etc. She did a great job. UPDATE: Thanks to all the donations and fundraisers, he IS going to Hawaii! The Veteran, along with four family members, will celebrate his 90th birthday at Pearl Harbor. It has been an honor to be a part of making this wish happen!

To answer the questions...YES, this wish is still on track! We're now working on paying for the family's admissions to the Memorials ($47-49 per person). As far as the day at the flea market...we made $247. Not bad, considering everything only cost $1.

What a great wish,my dad served in the Army in world war 11. My brother served in the Army in Vietnam receiving the Purple Heart,was vice commander of the American Legion Post #87,former member of the Color Guard of the VFW Walker Rogers Post #662 Died unexpectedly, born May 18, 1949 died Jan 11, 1995 he was 45, Lived in Lowell. girlmotocrosser: We are still about $700-plus shy of our goal. The NJ Chapter will be manning a table at a local flea market selling used items to raise the rest of the money. The flea market is on August 2nd. Our monthly Chapter meeting is later this morning, so I'll post more details about our plans after we discuss final details at the meeting.
