I WISH A safe, bigger bed for Evan

Our son Evan has fragile x syndrome, and a host of other disabling conditions. Presently, he is sleeping in a fully enclosed hospital bed, purchased when he was three years old. At that time, medicaid paid for the bed, but now there is a waiver freeze in our state, due to economy, and no intakes for equipment can/will be taken until this freeze is lifted. Evan is too big for this bed...the mattress is 37 "wide by 62" long...this was fine when he was three....but he is now 16, 5'11 inches tall...and no longer fits in this bed. He sleeps all bent and hunched...but we cannot let him sleep in a regular bed, as he wanders off at night.We cannot risk that he might leave the house, and get hurt, or in this weather freeze solid.
The bed he has now cost $8,000 when new...and I am well aware that this money is out of everyone's budget. I have found something called a "Safety Sleeper", an enclosed tent that can go on a regular bed of any size...this was designed for autistic children, or children who wander at night.
This tent sells for $1,549.00 plus $49.00 S&H. the company will give a 10% discount to special needs diagnosed children. We do have medical proof of all of Evan's conditions, as well as proof of need for this type of bed. We have a twin bed frame, and mattress...all we need is this tent, to give our son a comfortable nights sleep in a bed big enough to accommodate his size.
I realize $1,500 dollars is a lot of money...and I would not ask if we didn't have great need of a larger bed for him. If this is granted, Evan's old bed will be donated to another family struggling to obtain a medically needed bed for their child. We REALLY need this , for Evan's safety, and so we can put him in a bed big enough to hold him :)

We are beyond thankful to you all for giving our son a bed that will comfortably and safely hold him! I wish also to thank Cinders, Sunshineyearround, my DIL Sgambier, and animallvr for their generous donations towards this bed for Evan. I am at a loss for words...how do you properly thank someone for giving such a blessing to your child? You have blessed our home with your kindness, prayers and now this amazing bed!     UPDATE: for those who do not know, Evan is struggling right now with some neurological problem that developed after he had H1N1 flu. He has had an EEG, and numerous dr appts, and still they have not found what this issue is. We had an IEP meeting this week, to review his afternoon program, and during this meeting, the teachers and counselors agreed with us that this issue is NOT behavourial, it is a neurological problem....Our case worker was also there, and with this new support, we are praying for Albany Medical center's neuro unit to accept him, and find the cause. Presently Evan has difficulty walking, with all ADL's, and cannot feed himself, chew or swallow ( he must be told numerous times to chew...then swallow) Meals can take 1 1/2 hrs each. He now requires full and total care 24/7. Your continued prayers for him are VERY appreciated.

I really appreciate all the prayers for Evan, as he struggles with his new health issues...we are still trying to get him into Albany Med Neuro unit, to evaluate this new set of problems.... We are getting so much love and support here from ALL the heroes...I thank you all deeply for showing so much love to our son :)
