GRANTED!

Wish Granted by: WalkOnFoundationInc Feb 11, 2010

I WISH for assistance in getting my sons helmet

Last week at my sons 4 month check up told me my son had Plagiocephaly which is flat head. He wants him to get a helmet for it but my medicaid will not cover it. The cheapest helmet I have found is $1200. I can not afford that and I need help getting it. I would like to ask some organization for help but I don't know where to start at. Can someone help me please. Point me in the right spot. We live in Alabama. My son goes to an eye surgeon on Feb 2nd and I'll see if they can help.assistance

My son was born with the same condition and we were denied by insurance, they said it is cosmetic and wont pay. My sons doctors wrote telling them it can lead to other issues and such and they then accepted it and payed for 2 of the starbands.Good lick and I hope you find many heros!

I got alabama medicaid and they will not cover the helmet but Georigas medicaid covers it so it depends on the state I guess.
Thanks jojoboaz I contacted that website and she sent me an application so I'm going to fill it out. It said it could take up for 6-8 weeks but hopefully its alot quicker. Thanks alot everyone for giving me suggestions. It means alot.
I tried shriners hos. but they are unable to help me and I'm waiting for childrens hos. to call me back.

my daughter also suffered from this and medicaid paid for her helmet. If you do no qualify they have temporary medicaid you can apply for in situations such as this. I would call your local Departmen of Family services office and see. Good luck I wish you the best!

Shriner's hospital in Chicago has helped my son out and it hasn't cost me anything. They even transport us every 4 months. They are GREAT!!

Contact your local pediatric rehab center and see if they can help. You said you have medicaid, they are most likely used to dealing with this type of situation and know the right codes to enter in billing to get it done!

Call your local United Way or go to www.211.org, they have an entire directory of resources. Not sure if it will help but at least it's a start. God bless and I really hope you find a hero.
