I really did not want to come on here and wish for this, but I
really do not know what else to do. Since my husband has been out
of work since Oct 20th due to emergency gall bladder surgery, we
have fallen behind on everything. We have now recieved a shut off
notice for our phone for December 5th. We have to pay them $162.72
or they will shut it off and charge us a reconnect fee and make us
pay the balance in full (we are on a payment plan) and we will have
to give them a deposit. I just can't do that right now. We will be
ok when his short term disabilty gets fixed, but talking to those
people and the drs office (who messed up his papers in the first
place), is like talking to a wall. They do not care that we are a
family of 6 on one income. I have tried to get the phone company to
work with us, but they will not since we were behind before. I am
very sorry to be asking for help with a utility bill since it does
come on a regular basis, but we did not plan ahead for the surgery.
Please believe me that we were doing fine on our bills up until
then. We had fallen behind last year and we worked our butts off to
get caught up and on the right track. Now this happens and it
really just throws you for a loop. I will try and upload a picture
of the disconnect notice. If it doesn't work and you would like to
see it, please pm me. Thank you very much for reading my wish and
again I apologize if I seem to have been irresponsible on our
bills.

I hope you can find a hero to help you!
Did you try applying for lifeline with the phone company? If you goto your local CEO they can help you out with it. I know they do in my area. To learn more about Lifeline contact the local telephone company or the PA Office of Consumer Advocate at 1-800-684-6560.
I hope this information helps.
Good Luck

Have you tried the website modestneeds.org(or .com I can't remember which one it is) but they help people out too. It's worth looking into. If all else fails and you can't afford the phone bill have you thought about a pre paid cell phone from T-Mobile where you just buy the prepaid card minutes. At least it would be something for emergencies if you need it.

I wish I could help you but I am in the same predicament and I use my phone for my internet which keeps me in school. I go to school online and I have a shutoff notice too. Since so many people need help these days I have been and will continue to just cross my fingers instead of asking for help. Im trying to find a second job but have had no luck whatsoever. I wish you luck truly.

Thank you for your help courtdq, but they have nothing (help wise) to offer us since we were behind quite a bit this time last year when my husband was hospitalized for a serious illness 3x. But thanks for your help.

Since your husband is experiencing disability, you can call your local phone company and ask for a disability rebate. Almost all company's have them, there is usually a toll-free number they will give you for you to submit your info. I know that qwest will back date the reduced rate, I worked for them. I hope this will help a little, wish I could do more.
