I would love an iPad for my 4 1/2 year old autistic son so he can
use the great apps available for the iPad that are geared
specifically for special needs children to be able to "talk" to
their parents and care providers. My son is very smart, especially
when it comes to using electronics like our DVD player, the TV, and
his little Leapfrog device. Unfortunately, my little boy has
underdeveloped speech and has a difficult time telling his dad and
myself what he wants or needs. As it is, we have never even heard
the words every parent longs to hear, "I love you". My husband is
bedridden and very ill due to complications from major abdominal
surgery and bowel resection to remove a melon sized tumor. Because
of this, he is unable to play with our son or interact with him the
way he used to. An iPad would be a godsend because our little boy
would be able to play games with his dad on it as well as be able
to utilize the myriad of communication apps to be able to talk to
his dad and to me as well. I'd love for them to have as much
bonding time as possible in whatever time my husband may have left
should the worst happen and having the communication barrier lifted
would be truly amazing.
